Coldplay in India: How Rumi's Poetry Transformed Their Music

When Coldplay’s Chris Martin performed in Mumbai back, in 2016 little did anyone anticipate the effect it would have on the bands path. The Coldplay concert, in India went beyond being a performance. It marked a significant turning point in the band’s spiritual journey by blending elements of ancient Sufi teachings, with contemporary rock music vibes.

This pursuit guided him to the teachings of Rumi, a poet, from the 13th century whose timeless poetry deeply resonated with Martins inner self in unexpected ways.

The album’s "Ghost Stories" and " A Head Full of Dreams”, by the band reflect this enlightenment through their lyrics that resonate with Rumi’s lessons, on love acceptance and the essence of being human. The songs "Magic" and "Hymn, for the Weekend " with the latter music video showcasing Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor served as evidence of the bands deepening bond, with beliefs and customs.
